The First 24 is a stylish racer and a fast cruiser, an unparalleled compromise in the category of high-performance, transportable, cruising yachts. Ideal for racing with a crew of four, it can accommodate six on a coastal cruise, and eight on day trips
Exterior Design
The First 24, designed by Sam Manuard is a high-performance thoroughbred with a boldly modern hard-chine hull. Most of the standing rigging is led back to the clutches located on the companionway and two winches combined with jammers making trimming a child’s play. The First 24 performs particularly well in light and medium air, progressing moderately and with ease at speeds of 15 knots.
Two hatches open a large sail locker built into the bottom of the cockpit. Fenders can be stored here along with a small thermal or electric engine.
Interior Design
Below deck, the vast open interior of the First 24 has a large forward double berth and single berths on either side of the keel box. An ingenious cushion system means you can unite the two single berths to turn them into a double berth. The table can be carried in a bag and set up inside or outside in the cockpit and can be left on shore to make the boat lighter for racing. A small galley with hob and icebox, chemical toilets and an electric pack combined with solar panels make the yacht fully autonomous.
A Winner on All Fronts
The First 24 is very easy to handle, with similar sensations to a dinghy at the helm, and she sails good speeds in all points of sailing. Competitive but compliant, she performs well in regattas while remaining safe and comfortable for coastal family cruising. She has a swing keel that lifts completely, making her readily transportable and easy to launch, so mooring in shallow waters is practicable.
